Trains: Eurostar to the Alps, daytime, overnight Eurostar - Plagne

Trains to la Plagne

Using Eurostar trains can be a great way to travel to La Plagne: daytime and overnight Eurostar trains are available direct to the Alps. Obviously this is the most convenient form of train travel: get on in London and disembark at Aime La Plagne,  just 30 minutes from La Plagne. Some of the trains can be boarded at Ashford or Ebbsfleet in Kent.

As an alternative, it is definitely worth considering taking the Eurostar to Paris and crossing Paris:

  • it can be cheaper;
  • it gives a break to the journey;
  • the trains from Paris are less likely to be full of Brits;
  • it does not take much longer.

Taxis can be booked across Paris via Snow Carbon.

Whichever train you choose:

  • you avoid the long coach journey from the airports;
  • can relax over a long picnic: take your own as the buffets compete with airline food and do not forget a cork screw;
  • you are using more eco-friendly transport than flying.

All trains can be booked with Rail Europe. It can however be frustrating to find that some trains in France can only be booked 60 days or less in advance. Some tour operators will offer these trains but they may add a bit for arranging it and may not be able to tell which seats you are in. Also they are not obliged to offer the financial protection when travelling this way. You may get financial protection when booking with a tour operator but you should check this out: look for AITO operators as they offer 100% financial protection.

It is easy book online. The station for most of La Plagne is called Aime La Plagne, or for Champagny go to Moutiers station.

If booking a train by phone it can be easiest to say you are going to Bourg St Maurice. It is the same price and the tickets will often show this as the destination as it is the end of the train line for this area. Get off the train at Aime la Plagne though!

For Eurostar trains direct to the UK, on the way home it is best to board the train at Bourg St Maurice – there is no scanning equipment at Aime. Leave plenty of time for the scanning process at Bourg St Maurice.
